Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain can come from the shoulder itself, the shoulder blade's movement, or the neck — an examination separates them before treatment begins.

The shoulder depends on the ribcage, shoulder blade and neck working together. When one link is stiff or weak, the rotator cuff and joint capsule take the strain. That is why treating only the painful spot often provides short-lived relief.

We assess the whole chain, treat restricted joints and irritated soft tissue with adjusting, Graston technique, cupping or taping as appropriate, and rebuild control with progressive exercise.

Who this care is usually appropriate for

  • Pain lifting the arm overhead or behind the back
  • Rotator cuff strain and impingement patterns
  • Shoulder pain that follows neck stiffness
  • Overuse from sport, lifting or repetitive work

Important considerations & when not to proceed

  • Shoulder pain with chest pressure, shortness of breath or jaw pain requires emergency care.
  • Suspected dislocation, fracture or complete tendon tear is referred for imaging and orthopaedic opinion.

Frequently asked questions

Could my shoulder pain be coming from my neck?

Frequently, yes. Nerve irritation in the neck can present as shoulder or arm pain, which is why both regions are examined.

Will I get exercises to do at home?

Yes. Shoulder problems respond best when in-office treatment is paired with a short, specific home programme.
