Arm & Leg Pain
Pain, numbness or tingling in an arm or leg is often referred from the spine or an entrapped nerve, so care begins by locating the source rather than treating the limb alone.
Limb symptoms can originate from a nerve root in the neck or low back, from a nerve compressed along its path, or from a joint or muscle referring pain. Each has a different treatment path.
We examine strength, sensation and reflexes, test nerve tension, and check the joints along the whole chain. Treatment combines chiropractic care with soft-tissue technique and rehabilitation, and we refer when findings point outside our scope.
Who this care is usually appropriate for
- Numbness or tingling in a hand, arm, foot or leg
- Pain that travels rather than staying in one place
- Symptoms worse in specific positions
- Weakness or clumsiness in a limb
Important considerations & when not to proceed
- Sudden weakness or facial droop, or symptoms on both sides at once, requires emergency assessment.
- Rapidly progressing weakness or muscle wasting is referred for medical work-up.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my arm hurt when the problem is in my neck?
Nerves from the neck supply the arm. When a root is irritated, the brain interprets the signal as coming from where that nerve travels.
Is tingling serious?
Occasional tingling from a position is common. Persistent numbness, weakness or symptoms that spread should be assessed promptly.

Carpal Tunnel
Carpal tunnel syndrome is compression of the median nerve at the wrist, causing hand numbness and tingling; conservative care often helps, and the neck and forearm are examined too because they can produce similar symptoms.

Sciatica is pain following the sciatic nerve into the buttock and leg; treatment depends on what is irritating the nerve — most often a disc, a narrowed canal or tight surrounding tissue.

A herniated disc occurs when the softer inner material of a spinal disc pushes through its outer wall and irritates nearby tissue or a nerve root; many cases improve with structured non-surgical care.
