Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression
Spinal decompression uses a computer-controlled table to apply gentle, cyclic traction to a targeted spinal segment, reducing pressure within the disc so the surrounding tissue has a better environment to settle.
Patients with disc-related pain often feel stuck between medicating symptoms and considering surgery. Decompression therapy offers a structured non-surgical option, and Dr. Ken Cook has led this programme at Chiropractic Works for years.
Sessions are comfortable — you stay clothed and lie on the table while it applies and releases traction in a controlled cycle. Decompression is delivered as a course of sessions and works best combined with chiropractic care and rehabilitation, not on its own. Individual results vary, and we screen every patient for suitability before starting.
Who this treatment may be appropriate for
- Disc herniation or bulge with back, neck or leg pain
- Sciatica that has not settled with conservative care
- Degenerative disc-related pain
- Patients exploring alternatives to back surgery
Important considerations & when not to proceed
- Not appropriate with spinal fracture, tumour, infection, severe osteoporosis, spinal instability, certain surgical hardware, abdominal aortic aneurysm or pregnancy.
- Progressive neurological loss requires medical or surgical assessment first.
- Results vary between patients; we review progress at set points rather than promising an outcome.

Frequently asked questions
Is spinal decompression painful?
Most patients find it comfortable and many find it relieving. Tell the doctor immediately if any session is uncomfortable so settings can be adjusted.
How many sessions are needed?
Decompression is delivered as a course rather than a single session. Your recommended number of visits is explained at the report of findings, with review points along the way.
Does insurance cover it?
Coverage varies by plan. Our front desk will check your benefits and explain the cost before you begin.

A herniated disc occurs when the softer inner material of a spinal disc pushes through its outer wall and irritates nearby tissue or a nerve root; many cases improve with structured non-surgical care.

Sciatica is pain following the sciatic nerve into the buttock and leg; treatment depends on what is irritating the nerve — most often a disc, a narrowed canal or tight surrounding tissue.

A bulging disc is a broad outward extension of a disc's outer wall; it is often painless, and when it does cause symptoms it usually responds to conservative care.
