Neurofeedback | Brain Training

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive way of training brainwave patterns: a QEEG brain map identifies irregular patterns, and training sessions then use feedback to encourage more regulated activity.

Brain mapping with a qualitative electroencephalograph (QEEG) shows how different regions of your brain are behaving. From that map, a custom training protocol is built for the patterns specific to you.

During a session, sensors read activity while you watch or listen to feedback that responds to it. Nothing is sent into the brain. Neurofeedback has been researched since the 1960s, building on earlier work showing that brainwaves can be recorded and measured, and it is used by patients who want to work on regulation without adding medication.

Chiropractic Works is a certified BrainCore clinic. Neurofeedback is delivered as a course of regular sessions, and outcomes vary between individuals — it is not a treatment or cure for any psychiatric or neurological disease.

Who this treatment may be appropriate for

  • Attention and focus concerns, including ADD/ADHD patterns
  • Anxiety, stress and difficulty switching off
  • Insomnia and poor sleep quality
  • Tension and migraine headache patterns
  • Memory and learning difficulties

Important considerations & when not to proceed

  • Neurofeedback is not a substitute for psychiatric or neurological care; do not stop prescribed medication without your prescriber.
  • Uncontrolled seizure disorders, acute psychiatric crisis and certain neurological conditions require medical clearance and co-management.
  • Consistency matters — sporadic attendance limits results.

Frequently asked questions

Is neurofeedback safe?

It is non-invasive and nothing is put into the brain. Some patients report temporary tiredness or headache after early sessions. Anyone with a seizure disorder or significant psychiatric history is co-managed with their physician.

How long is a course of training?

Neurofeedback works over a series of sessions rather than one appointment. Your recommended number is based on your brain map and goals, with reassessment along the way.

Can children have neurofeedback?

Yes, it is commonly used with children. We discuss suitability, expectations and scheduling with parents before starting.
