Radial Shockwave Therapy
Radial shockwave therapy delivers pulses of mechanical energy into tendon and soft tissue to stimulate a local healing response, and is typically used for stubborn, long-standing complaints.
Chronic tendon problems can persist long after the original injury because the tissue stops remodelling. Shockwave therapy is used to interrupt that pattern by applying repeated mechanical pulses to the target area.
Sessions are brief and delivered as a short course, usually alongside loading exercise, which remains the foundation of tendon rehabilitation. Some tenderness during or after treatment is normal.
Who this treatment may be appropriate for
- Plantar fasciitis and heel pain
- Tennis and golfer's elbow
- Achilles and other chronic tendon complaints
- Trigger points and persistent muscular tension
Important considerations & when not to proceed
- Avoided over tumours, infections, growth plates in children, blood clots and while pregnant.
- Not appropriate for patients on blood thinners or with clotting disorders without medical clearance.
- Acute injuries are usually managed differently in the early stages.

Does shockwave therapy hurt?
It can be uncomfortable over sensitive tissue. Intensity is adjustable and set to a level you tolerate.
