Graston Technique
Graston Technique is instrument-assisted soft-tissue treatment: stainless steel instruments are used along muscle, tendon and fascia to find and work through restricted tissue.
The instruments let the clinician feel restrictions that are hard to detect by hand and apply controlled pressure precisely where it is needed. It is commonly used for scar tissue, chronic tendon complaints and stubborn tightness that has not responded to stretching.
Treatment is combined with movement and loading exercise, because tissue changes hold better when the area is then used well. Temporary redness or bruising in the treated area is common.
Who this treatment may be appropriate for
- Chronic muscle and tendon tightness
- Scar tissue after injury or surgery
- Plantar fasciitis, elbow and shoulder tendon complaints
- Restrictions that have not responded to stretching
Important considerations & when not to proceed
- Avoided over open wounds, infections, unhealed fractures, blood clots and cancerous lesions.
- Blood thinners, clotting disorders and fragile skin require caution or clearance.
- Temporary redness or bruising is expected; tell us if it is more than mild.

Frequently asked questions
Does Graston Technique hurt?
It can be uncomfortable over restricted tissue. Pressure is adjusted to a level you tolerate, and soreness usually settles within a day or two.
Will I bruise?
Mild redness is normal and some patients bruise lightly. Let us know if you bruise easily or take blood thinners.
