Osteoarthritis & Degenerative Disc Disease
Degenerative change in joints and discs is common with age and does not have to mean ongoing pain; care focuses on keeping joints moving, managing load and maintaining strength.
Osteoarthritis and disc degeneration describe wear-related change in cartilage, joints and discs. Many people have these findings without symptoms, and the amount of change on a scan correlates poorly with how much pain someone has.
Our care aims at what can be changed: joint mobility, muscular support, movement quality, weight and activity habits. Modalities such as red light, PEMF and soft-tissue work may be used to help comfort while you build capacity.
Who this care is usually appropriate for
- Morning stiffness that eases with movement
- Aching that increases with prolonged activity
- Known degenerative findings on imaging
- Patients wanting to stay active as they age
Important considerations & when not to proceed
- Inflammatory arthritis, infection or fracture presents differently and requires medical management.
- Advanced osteoporosis or joint instability changes technique selection.

Frequently asked questions
Is degeneration reversible?
The structural change is not reversed, but pain, stiffness and function often improve considerably with the right care and loading.
Should I avoid exercise?
No. Appropriately graded movement is one of the most effective things you can do for arthritic joints.
