Whiplash
Whiplash is a neck injury from rapid back-and-forth movement, most often in a vehicle collision; early assessment and graded, active care produce better outcomes than rest alone.
Symptoms may appear hours or days after a collision and can include neck pain, headache, stiffness, dizziness, jaw pain and difficulty concentrating. An early examination establishes what was injured and rules out anything requiring urgent imaging.
Treatment starts gently and progresses as tolerance improves: restoring movement, calming irritated tissue, then rebuilding neck strength and control. We document findings and progress carefully for insurance and legal purposes when needed.
Who this care is usually appropriate for
- Recent motor vehicle collision
- Neck pain or headache that developed after an impact
- Stiffness, dizziness or difficulty concentrating post-accident
- Sports or fall-related neck strain
Important considerations & when not to proceed
- Severe pain, midline tenderness, numbness or altered consciousness after an accident needs emergency evaluation and imaging first.
- Suspected concussion is co-managed and treated with appropriate caution.

Dizziness has several possible sources — inner ear, neck, blood pressure and central causes — so screening comes before treatment, and we refer when the cause sits outside our scope.
